Hi.
I'm Stacey Estabrook, the owner and founder of FLXMUSHROOMS.I am a certified wild mushroom forager, educator, and guide based in the Finger Lakes region of New York on the ancestral and unceded lands of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. My wild mushroom certification was completed through Tradd Cotter at Mushroom Mountain and FLXMUSHROOMS was made official in 2022.
I grew up in rural Pennsylvania, where I spent most of my time outside—exploring the woods and creeks, observing wildlife, and learning from the natural world. Mother Nature taught me how to observe, how to listen, and showed me that everything is connected. Those early experiences shaped the way I think and move through the world, and that connection still guides everything I do. My childhood curiosity grew into an endless fascination with the natural world, particularly the magical ever-presence of fungi. Whether we see them or not, they are always there—breaking down the old, nourishing the new, and connecting everything. As my understanding of the fungal world deepened, so did my desire to share that knowledge with others—and to hopefully inspire them on their own journey into the fantastical world of fungi.
Learning to safely and confidently forage wild mushrooms requires in-depth, in-person instruction which can be hard to find. That’s why I started teaching. The goal of my class is to provide clear, thorough guidance focused on the most delicious, safe, and easy-to-identify wild mushrooms in our region.
There’s a whole universe just beneath our feet. Let’s learn about it together.
May the Forest be with you,
Stacey
The Peace of Wild Things
— Wendell Berry
“When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in the beauty of the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought or grief.
I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light.
For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.”
